Studio 2LR, Inc. Architecture + Interiors Earns Two Historic Preservation Awards

May 20, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC  – Studio 2LR, an architecture and interior design firm with an emphasis on sustainable contemporary design, recently earned two design awards for historic preservation projects.

The Adluh Flour building and the NAI Avant corporate headquarters in the DuPre Building, both located in the historic Vista in Columbia, SC, earned Adaptive Use Awards from Historic Columbia. The Adluh Flour building is a two-story brick building constructed ca. 1910. The existing wood roof trusses and floor joists remain and are visible aesthetic elements along with the exterior brick walls in the individual tenant spaces. During the renovation of the interior of the building, the original wood flooring was salvaged and reinstalled in the lobby areas. Adluh Flour was initially operated by B.R. Crooner and family. In 1926 the Allen Brothers Milling Co. bought the mill and its surrounding buildings and have been operating the mill ever since.

The DuPre Building was constructed for the DuPre Auto Company, a Ford automobile dealership, in 1919. The three-story brick building has been redeveloped with a mix of retail, restaurant, and office space. In 2013 NAI Avant acquired the building to relocate their corporate headquarters. Studio 2LR worked with NAI Avant on two floors of loft-style office space, featuring 13 to 16 foot ceilings, exposed historic brick, antique heart pine beams, exposed ductwork, abundant natural light with large ventilator windows and original hardwood floors.
