Sue Schneider receives United Way of the Piedmont’s Morgan Award

United Way of the Piedmont (UWP) is excited to announce that Sue Scheider is the 2017 recipient of The Morgan Award. The Morgan Award is given annually to United Way of the Piedmont leadership donors who exemplify caring for our community. Schneider has selflessly shared her knowledge, time, and expertise with Spartanburg and the entire Upstate Region. For all who know her, Sue Schneider embodies the characteristics of a servant leader.

Sue Schneider is the Chief Executive Officer of Spartanburg Water where she is the first woman to serve in that leadership position in Spartanburg Water’s nearly 130-year history of providing water and wastewater services to our community. Schneider has more than 30 years in the environmental remediation, public utilities and environmental management fields. She is a driver of innovation and an early adopter of cutting-edge leadership practices.

Schneider was chosen for The Morgan Award for her dedication to community service and passionate involvement in many organizations whose mission and purpose aligns with that of Spartanburg Water. These opportunities have been a source of personal fulfillment for her, but also provide continued possibilities for engagement among a wide variety of stakeholders, including the team she leads at Spartanburg Water.

As the Past Chair of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, she distinguished herself as the first woman to lead that organization. In addition, she is currently an executive board member of Ten at the Top and the Urban League of the Upstate, and serves on the board of the South Carolina Association of United Ways and the Rotary Club of Spartanburg. Sue is also past Campaign Chair and Board Chair for United Way of the Piedmont.

Schneider is also the Past Second Vice President of the Breakfast Business and Professional Women’s Club of Spartanburg, an organization that named her its 2013 Career Woman of the Year. Her distinguished track record of community involvement also includes past membership on the boards of Partners for Active Living, Spartanburg Area Conservancy, and the Spartanburg County First Steps Board, where she served as Chair.

She is a graduate of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s Regional Fellows, Leadership Spartanburg, Leadership South Carolina, the Diversity Leadership Institute at the Riley Institute at Furman University and was named to the Who’s Who of Public Service.

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of The Morgan Award’s presentation, given at the annual General Daniel Morgan Leadership Society Reception. The reception honors all members of the General Daniel Morgan Leadership Society which includes any donor who gives $1,000 or more to United Way of the Piedmont. This group of individuals comprises more than 40% of UWP’s annual campaign, supporting critical programs in the areas of education, financial stability, and health.
