Sue Schneider, Spartanburg Water CEO, announces retirement
December 8, 2021Sue Schneider, Chief Executive Officer for Spartanburg Water, announced her plans for retirement to the Commission of Public Works and the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District during their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
Effective March 31, 2022, Mrs. Schneider will retire after more than 23 years of leadership with the water and wastewater utility. Beginning her career in 1998 as Assistant General Manager, she rose to take the role as Chief Executive Officer in 2000.
Under her leadership tenure, Spartanburg Water made significant investments in water and wastewater infrastructure and technology, allowing for monumental growth in both residential customers and supporting the expansion of industry throughout Spartanburg County. She is a strong community advocate and served in numerous leadership roles throughout the years on advisory boards and committees, including those for The United Way of the Piedmont, the Spartanburg Chamber and Ten at the Top.
“Sue has been not only a great partner for our water and sewer commissions, but an advocate for our community’s ability to access the highest quality drinking water and reliable wastewater services,” said John Montgomery, Chairman of the Commission of Public Works of the City of Spartanburg. “It has been an honor to serve with her, and I wish her the very best.”
The Commission of Public Works of the City of Spartanburg and the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District plan to hold a nationwide search to find a candidate to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer at Spartanburg Water.
“I am confident our commissioners will find an individual who can step into the role as Chief Executive Officer and lead Spartanburg Water on a forward path of continued successes,” said Mrs. Schneider. “I am excited to see what the future holds for this organization that holds a very special place in my heart.”
