Support American Legion Post 25 in Completing Home Repairs for a Vietnam Veteran

March 2, 2025

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, 87-year-old Vietnam War veteran Buddy Baldwin of Waterloo, South Carolina, faced significant damage to his home. With limited insurance coverage, Baldwin turned to his community for assistance. American Legion Post 25 in Laurens quickly stepped in, already completing critical repairs, including replacing damaged floors and rebuilding a back wall. Now, to finish the job, the Post has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise additional funds for the final repairs, including replacing Baldwin’s roof.

As of February 27, 2025, the campaign has raised $1,655 through five donations. Notable contributions include $500 from Laurens Electric Cooperative and $500 from M&M Scrap. Despite this generosity, additional funds are essential to complete the repairs. Post 25 Commander Kevin Farnsworth emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “We have some dedicated veterans, Sons of the Legion, and Legion Riders who are always willing to help in the community.”

The funds raised will be used to purchase building materials, with Post 25 volunteers providing the labor. This collaborative effort underscores the community’s commitment to supporting its veterans. To contribute to the restoration of Baldwin’s home, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page: Support a Veteran’s Home Repair After Helene.

American Legion Post 25 continues to exemplify its dedication to veterans and the broader community through initiatives like this. Commander Farnsworth expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, noting, “We can’t thank the community enough for supporting us throughout this journey.”

Your support will help ensure Baldwin can continue living safely and comfortably in his home.
