Symphony League of the SC Philharmonic to Host Benefit for SC PhIl Youth Orchestras

unnamed (12)COLUMBIA, SC – May 5, 2014 – The Symphony League of the South Carolina Philharmonic will host a Past Presidents Reception honoring the South Carolina Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (SCPYO) at the home of Faye Jeffcoat, 16 Heathwood Circle, Columbia, SC on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 4-6pm. Music will be provided by Youth Orchestra members Lauren Chen, Mimi Harding, Faith Rowan and Harry Rowan. Spring Shoes will also be featured by Gwen Rawls. Tickets are $40. About The Sc Philharmonic Youth Orchestras

The South Carolina Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (SCPYO), which were founded in 1964, provide orchestral playing experience for young musicians. The SCPYO offers three competitive ensembles: The String Orchestra, conducted by Nicole Neely, The Repertory Orchestra, conducted by Andrew C. Preston, Jr. and The Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Jerry Gatch. All ensembles are managed by Judith Lawrence. The next SCPYO concert is Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts, Columbia, SC.

Founded in 1965, the mission of the Symphony League is to foster, promote, and increase musical knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts in the community and to cooperate with and support the South Carolina Philharmonic. Cheryl Black, Symphony League President and herself a musician and music teacher, believes that the SCPYO is the future of the South Carolina Philharmonic. The Symphony League raised $25,000 for the SC Philharmonic in 2013.
