Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Event Returns with Savings and Sustainability for Families

May 3, 2025

Popular recycling initiative returns, rewarding parents with savings on new baby gear

Parents and caregivers in Laurens County and beyond can take advantage of a popular national event aimed at both savings and sustainability: the Target Car Seat Trade-In Program. This initiative allows families to responsibly dispose of old, expired, or damaged car seats—and receive a valuable discount on new baby gear in return.

Here’s how it works: When you bring in an old car seat—whether it’s an infant seat, convertible seat, booster, base, or even an expired or damaged model—you’ll receive a 20% off Target Circle™ Bonus that can be used toward a new car seat, base, booster, stroller, travel system, or select baby home gear such as high chairs, swings, bouncers, walkers, and more.

The current bonus offer is valid from April 27 through May 24, 2025, and can be redeemed both in-store and online. To participate, simply bring your car seat to a participating Target store and drop it off in the designated bin located near Guest Services. Signs posted near the bin include a QR code—scan it with your mobile device to receive your exclusive Target Circle™ Bonus in your digital wallet.

Each Target Circle account can receive the bonus once, and it can be redeemed twice before it expires. The discount excludes clearance items and items sold or shipped by Target Plus™ but can be combined with other eligible promotions.

This isn’t the first time Target has offered this family-friendly initiative. The company launched its first car seat trade-in program in 2016 and, through partnerships with recycling companies, has since recycled over 3 million car seats, keeping approximately 49 million pounds of plastic and metal out of landfills. Recycled materials are repurposed into a wide range of products, from plastic buckets and carpet padding to construction materials and select Target Brightroom™ storage solutions.

For local parents, the trade-in program offers a win-win: safer car seat upgrades and a greener community. Be sure to contact your nearest Target store to confirm participation—most full-size stores are included, while select small-format stores may not offer drop-off bins.
