TATT Unveils New Local Information Source

January 31, 2012

UPSTATE, SC – January 31, 2012 – Ten at the Top, an organization created to foster collaboration and partnerships across the Upstate, has officially launched a new “Upstate Information Hub” (www.OurUpstateSC.Info) that will provide Upstate residents with a new web portal to find information and resources across the Upstate.

The Information Hub is the first initiative to come out of the Regional Task Forces that were created following the unveiling of the Our Upstate Vision last April. More than 10,000 Upstate residents contributed to the development of the regional vision and currently nearly 250 residents are participating on the regional task forces.

The Upstate Information Hub was created to provide Upstate residents with an easy place to find links to information, resources, activities and events available across the ten county region. The portal site includes an extensive Events and Activities calendar as well as more than 1,000 links to existing web sites for local resources on everything from starting or growing a business to sustainability tips as well as listings for local governments, utility companies, schools, parks and much more. Initial funding for the site was provided by the Graham Foundation.

“Discussions in many of our early Task Force meetings centered around the need for a central place to find information, events and resources from across the Upstate,” said Dean Hybl, Executive Director of Ten at the Top. “The Information Hub was not created to replace all the organization and community web sites that already provide information about a specific resource or local activities. Instead it will serve as a central repository where residents can easily access those sites and the information and resources available through them.”

The link library on the site is expected to double over the next year as additional resources and selection categories are added to the site. The general public is encouraged to suggest resources and new information categories through the “Add a Resource” form located on the site. It is also easy to add events to the events calendar through the “Submit an Event” feature.

“We have scoured the internet to find resources and existing web sites from across the Upstate,” Hybl said. “However, we know that there are many resources that people are looking for that we will need to add to the site as it continues to grow. There is no cost to add a resource or event to the site, so we hope people will help us make the site even stronger over time.”

Hybl also expects the inclusion of a comprehensive regional events and activities calendar will make it easier for residents to discover events and opportunities that exist in other communities within the Upstate.

“There are so many neat and fun activities and programs that are happening in communities across our region. Right now there are a number of local calendars for specific communities, but we hope a comprehensive regional calendar will open the possibilities for residents to discover what else is around often only a very short drive from their home.”
