Tavern & Table announces new Executive Chef and ownership transition

Tavern & Table announced the promotion of Denis Crutchfield to Executive Chef as the Shem Creek restaurant enters a new era.

Chef Denis came to Tavern & Table in 2020 from Tom Colicchio’s Craft LA in Los Angeles, where he was Chef de Cuisine. In the 2 years as a Sous Chef here at Tavern & Table and now as Executive Chef, Crutchfield’s food philosophy remains the same, “dishes are simple, satisfying and uncomplicated.” By allowing fresh produce and ingredients to shine, he honors the farmers who put as much love and dedication into their crafts as he does.

Tavern & Table first opened its doors in December 2014, the dream child of its four cofounders Andy Palmer, Jeff Condon, and Dianne and Cecil Crowley. This year, the team transitioned ownership to Palmer and Condon (pictured below), bringing their decades-long journey as partners in restaurants full circle. Both Palmer and Condon worked together for the Crowleys at Wild Wing Cafe for more than 20 years. Of their partnership, Condon says “it really is the evolution of a family business. We’ve grown up together in this business and wouldn’t have gotten this far if it weren’t for the Crowleys bringing us together and leading us all these years.”

With a new talented Chef, Tavern & Table will offer new menu offerings daily, weekly, and seasonally. At the bar, they plan to expand the bourbon program, barrelling and aging their own bourbons. Plus, with its famous view of Shem Creek, the team also plans to utilize the outdoor dock space more frequently.  Oyster roasts, Lowcountry Boils, beer gardens and other events are in the works to create an even more fun atmosphere dockside. In addition to the two indoor spaces the restaurant offers for guests to host private events, the dock is now also available to host up to 100 guests.

While exciting changes are in store for the restaurant, it’s the continuity and talent of its staff, the atmosphere, and their team’s commitment to the guest experience that make Condon and Palmer most proud.

Tavern & Table is open daily at 11am and 10am on Sunday for Brunch.
