TD Bank Reedy River Run celebrates 40th anniversary

April 4, 2017

The Greenville Track Club’s TD Bank Reedy River Run, presented by The Greenville News, will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 in downtown Greenville. This marks the 40th anniversary of the race, which began in 1977 to highlight the revitalization of downtown Greenville.

The TD Bank Reedy River Run is one of the oldest, signature road races in the south and continues to be one of the Upstate’s premier running events. Last year the Greenville Track Club moved the race to April, after being held the first weekend of March for nearly four decades, and the 2016 event boasted a record attendance with more than 2,500 participants. The 40th annual event is expected to host more than 3,000 runners.

“We believe in supporting community initiatives like the TD Bank Reedy River Run that highlight Greenville’s vibrant downtown, increase quality of life in our community and position this region for economic prosperity,” said Cal Hurst, Regional Vice President for TD Bank.

The race routes for both the 10K and 5K will once again begin and end on Main Street and highlight picturesque downtown Greenville. A Post-Race Festival, which will take place in Falls Park, will include an awards presentation, music, food and vendors.

On Saturday, April 22 the 5K race starts at 7:20am and the 10K race starts at 7:55am. The Youth Mile, presented by ScanSource, starts at 7:25am. The Post Race Festival will be held from 7:45 – 11:00am. For more information and to register, please visit tdbankreedyriverrun.com.

About the Reedy River Run

In the early 1970s, a group of influential business leaders approached the Greenville Track Club to establish a race highlighting the development of Cleveland Park and the creation of Heritage Green, as well as various other public efforts to enhance downtown Greenville’s overall appeal. In 1977, the Greenville Track Club approved the plans for the Reedy River Run, and during its first year, it was a featured 10K event on the Racing South Magazine Road Racing Circuit. The race is part of the Running Journal Grand Prix and was the 2002 USA Track & Field South Carolina 10K Championship. The 10K and 5K races are also USA Track & Field certified courses and sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, has been the title sponsor of the race for more than 15 years.
