Technical Colleges, Department of Commerce Host Insurance Workshops for Small Business

February 3, 2009

Insurance workshops offered to small business owners free of charge

COLUMBIA, SC – February 2, 2009 – The South Carolina Department of Commerce and the South Carolina Technical College System will host a second round of free, regional workshops for small businesses, focusing on insurance issues.

The insurance sessions will feature several presentations that address the best utilization of property and casualty, workers’ comp and health insurance. The presenters will share a broad range of client experiences and note the relevance to small business decision making.  Participants will have a better understanding of the costs associated with insurance underwriting and strategies on how to save money on insurance, allowing them to act realistically in developing and implementing their own policies.

The first insurance workshop will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3 at the Midlands Technical College Northeast Campus in Columbia, and the second insurance workshop will be held on February 10 at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

In January, Commerce and the Technical College System hosted small business workshops covering marketing strategies and issues.  In a recent small business survey conducted by the South Carolina Department of Commerce, marketing strategy and insurance were two areas of great interest for the small business community.

Seating for the workshops is limited.  For more information on the workshops and the registration process, contact Ted Campbell at the South Carolina Department of Commerce, [email protected], or 803-737-2329.
