TGHA to provide vouchers for Greenville Together’s Housing Surge
June 2, 2025The Greenville Housing Authority will be providing seven Mainstream vouchers to a program aimed at reducing homelessness in our communities.
Greenville Together’s Housing Surge, which is coordinated through Triune Mercy Center, aims to rapidly rehouse those experiencing unsheltered homelessness, with a goal of rehousing 80 households by the end of 2025. The Greenville Housing Authority (TGHA) is a partner in the initial launch of this endeavor. The vouchers will permit the applicants to select a unit on the private market that meets established payment and inspection standards. The Mainstream Program is separately funded and targeted specifically to non-elderly disabled persons.
“The TGHA is proud to be at the forefront of this effort,” said Terril Bates, Chief Executive Officer of the agency. “Our goal is to help support the efforts of the important initiative being managed by Greenville Together.
Launched this March, Greenville Together stems from a community task force established in 2024 that recognized the need for new, bold, and innovative approaches to homelessness. The Housing Surge has three main initiatives: Street to Home, which provides long-term housing solutions for people with the longest histories of unsheltered homelessness, including those who are medically fragile; Rapid Exit, a program to quickly transition the unhoused to stable housing and Community Care, which links people to temporary housing and other community resources.
In Greenville, 75% of extremely low-income renters spend more than half of their income on housing. This puts many families at risk of losing their homes even when they have jobs.
