New Campus Planned for Hartness Community on Greenville’s Eastside

Thales Academy, a college preparatory network of K-12 independent schools based in North Carolina, is expanding to South Carolina with a new campus location in Greenville slated to open within the Hartness community in 2023. The Greenville campus will initially offer grades K-3 for the inaugural school year, with plans to add a grade each year to grow to a full kindergarten through eighth grade campus. Located on South Highway 14, Hartness is a new urban village founded by the Hartness family and incorporates the family’s estate. The innovative, mixed-use community offers homes, restaurants, office, specialty retail and work-live spaces.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring our high quality, affordable private school education model to South Carolina and join the Hartness community in Greenville,” says Bob Luddy, Founder and Chairman of Thales Academy. “We have had the privilege of serving students in North Carolina for many years, as well as in Virginia and Tennessee most recently, and we are excited for South Carolina to join our growing Thales network. Greenville is an excellent location for Thales, with a quickly growing population of young families and a unique cultural community.”

“The incorporation of education within Hartness is instrumental in realizing our vision to create a legacy community built to last for future generations, and Thales Academy is the perfect partner as we share consistent values on education and community creation,” said Sean Hartness, CEO of Hartness Development. “We are thrilled to be able to share our beautiful village with Thales students and faculty, while providing unique opportunities for hands-on learning experiences with our Nature Preserve, forthcoming farm and more.”

The Thales Academy Greenville campus will be similar to existing Thales Academy facilities with an emphasis on beautiful and natural-light-rich design and outfitted with the latest safety and security features, including controlled-access doors, security cameras, and a background check system for all visitors, as well as advanced HVAC units that provide up to 100% outdoor air for superior interior air quality. The facilities will feature a modern, yet classical, aesthetic, which will allow students to learn in an environment modeled after beauty and order, and large floor-to-ceiling glass windows will flood classrooms with natural light. Ensuring students are well-versed in technology, the new campus will have Apple TVs in every classroom, as well as shared iPad and MacBook carts.

Luddy comments, “We are honored to be welcomed by the Hartness community and we look forward to offering our Greenville campus students the value of a strong education surrounded by a supportive community.”

Thales Academy currently operates twelve campuses in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, instructing over 4,600 students, and continues to add campuses as demand for its successful school model grows. The school network recently announced a thirteenth campus in Clayton, NC, also slated to open in 2023, as well as Thales College, a classical undergraduate school, opening in Raleigh, NC in 2022. Student formation is designed to develop the entire person, which is achieved through a research-based teaching method, best-in-class instructors, and a culture that embodies traditional values. Tuition will be $6,000 per year at the new Greenville campus, and scholarships, a Full Pay Discount, and payment plans will be available.

Hallmarks of Thales Academy include: rigorous, college-prep academics that emphasize learning to mastery; character formation; real world skills development; personalized attention and affordable tuition with no extra fees or fundraising. In addition to the low cost, other tangible benefits include: a stable, proven educational approach; a consistent year-round calendar; and a simple dress code. The school strives to cultivate critical thinkers by teaching how to think, not what to think; fosters often forgotten skills such as writing and grammar; and develops confident leaders with strong character. Applications for Thales Academy Greenville’s inaugural year will open in September 2022.
