The American Bass Anglers 2024 American Fishing Tour Championship on Lake Murray – May 3-9
April 23, 2025The American Bass Anglers (ABA) 2024 American Fishing Tour Championship will be held on Lake Murray from May 3-9, 2025 at Dreher Island State Park, located at 3677 State Park Road in Prosperity, SC. The tournament, presented by the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) was originally scheduled for October 6-11, 2024, but was rescheduled due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in the region.
The 24th Annual ABA National Championship returns to Lake Murray twenty-five years after it held its first championship here in 2000. Returning to Lake Murray twenty-five years later, pays homage to the enduring legacy and continued appeal of the American Fishing Tour.
The championship has three competition days from May 7-9 that the public can attend, with anglers launching from Dreher Island State Park each day at safe daylight. Weigh-ins on Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8 will begin at 3:00 p.m., and the weigh-in on the final day of competition will start at 2:00 p.m. The public weigh-ins are free to attend with park entry fee. Please note that Dreher Island State Park charges parking fees: $3 per adult, $1.50 per adult 65 years and older, and $1 per child ages 6-15 years old. Big Boys BBQ’s food truck will be onsite serving up delicious barbecue!
The top anglers in the championship will win cash, and the American Fishing Tour Champion will win a new Caymas boat powered by a Mercury Marine outboard, with T-H Marine components installed. Additional competitions will take place within the championship, including Angler of the Year (AOY). Each division of the American Fishing Tour submits the top angler(s) from their division into the AOY Final Round. The highest finishing AOY from these entrants will win Angler of the Year, who will also receive a new Caymas boat powered by a Mercury Marine outboard, with T-H Marine components installed.
A second competition within the championship is the Service Team Awards. American Bass Anglers recognizes anglers’ accomplishments throughout the season from within their Service Team, which are: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Homeland Security, Non-Military, and Lady Anglers.
As anticipation builds, the 2024 American Fishing Tour Championship at Lake Murray is set to be a memorable competition, blending fierce competition with the serene beauty of Lake Murray, also known as the Jewel of South Carolina. This championship highlights the talents of the nation’s top weekend anglers who have worked all season to achieve qualification for the championship tournament.
The American Fishing Tour (AFT) is a bass tournament designed for weekend anglers. It has over 50 divisions east of the Rockies, each hosting 6-10 events per season. The tournament is tailored for non-professional fishing enthusiasts and prohibits full-time guides and professional anglers from competing to ensure fair play and camaraderie.
