The Barbara Stone Foundation gives $26,000 in grants to Upstate organizations that offer special programming for people with disabilities

The Barbara Stone Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting visionary and creative programs and initiatives for individuals with disabilities, gave five grants totaling $26,000 to Upstate non-profits in May 2022. Since 1991, the Barbara Stone Foundation has supported organizations in Greenville County that are committed to helping individuals with disabilities thrive through innovative programming.

The following five local non-profit organizations received Spring grants:

• Clarity – $3500 grant for family events that give parents information and resources about caring for a child with disabilities at their FR-amily Nights
• Carolina Dance Collaborative – $5000 grant to continue residency for creative dance instruction for special education students and an annual Holiday Flash Mob
• Upstate Carolina Adaptive Golf – $5000 grant for adaptive golf programs for individuals with special needs and disabled veterans.
• Upstate Warrior Solution – $5000 grant for outdoor recreational therapy for disabled veterans
• YMCA of Greenville R.E.C.E.S.S. – $7500 grant for RECESS (Recreation, Education, Community, Exercise, Social and Service), a signature program of The YMCA of Greenville, which the Barbara Stone Foundation helped fund from its inception, for post-high school adults with diverse abilities.

The 2022 Barbara Stone Foundation board members include Jimmy Kimbell, President, Michele Reeves, Vice President, Marion Elliott, Treasurer, Paige Winget, Secretary, Dr. Lisa Castellani, Matthew Collins, Henry Gallivan, Cheryl Garrison, Amy Hallasy, Riku Oinonen, Elizabeth Piper, Nick Skenteris, Brooke Schmidt, Harriet Pollitt Wallace, and the Honorable Nick Theodore, President Emeritus.
