The Beach Company breaks ground on new Columbia development

November 11, 2016

The Beach Company, headquartered in Charleston, announced plans to begin construction on Sola Station to complete the final phase of its CanalSide neighborhood in downtown Columbia, S.C. Sola Station, named for the 19th-century railroad station that once connected the port of Charleston to the state’s inland regions, will be a mixed-use community located in The Vista, Columbia’s top arts and entertainment district. The property is adjacent to the existing CanalSide Lofts and features unmatched views of the Congaree River and easy access to both Three Rivers Greenway and downtown nightlife.

Plans for the site call for 339 multifamily rental units and 29,000 square feet of commercial space. A complete amenity package for residents will include a saltwater pool, fitness center and yoga studio, dog park and spa, bike shop, and clubroom overlooking a pool and outdoor kitchens.

“The Beach Company continues to remain focused on upscale apartment living in desirable downtown neighborhoods across the Southeast,” said John Darby, CEO of The Beach Company. “From the well-established CanalSide Lofts in Columbia to Main + Stone in Greenville, there is an undeniable preference for apartment living in walking distance to work and entertainment.”

For years, Columbia’s 1,200 acre industrial and rail hub gathered dust, but today the rustic warehouses and mills enjoy new lives as music and entertainment venues, art galleries, boutiques and award-winning restaurants. The development is just blocks from Huger Street and Gervais Street, two of Columbia’s major arteries, and just minutes from I-26.

The consultant team at Sola Station includes, JHP Architecture, Creative Builders, Inc., Alliance Consulting Engineers, Inc., Hodgson & Douglas, LLC, and Moore Design Group. Construction financing is provided by US Bank National Association.
