The City of Columbia Business Licensing Division to launch new software for licensing
January 16, 2025The City of Columbia Business Licensing Division announced a partnership with HdL Companies to provide enhanced licensing services via a new cloud-based platform effective now.
What is Changing?
The new software will bring several updates:
- New Self-Service Portal and Look and Feel: Expect a refreshed online system with more functions to manage your account.
- Enhanced Reporting and Payments: You can now report and make payments online for business license tax, hospitality tax, and tourism & development fees.
- Updated Process for Hospitality Tax and Tourism Development Coupons: Hospitality and tourism coupons will no longer be used nor sent with renewals. Please utilize the online self-service portal to report and remit. Other options include: Printing and mailing in our downloadable Local Remittance Form from our website or you may request a form by contacting our office for a mailed or emailed copy.
- Updated Renewal Form: The renewal form will be emailed to the address on file with an attached leaflet containing renewal information, FAQs, and more at the end of January 2025. The paper renewal and same leaflet will be mailed to the address on file week of mid-February 2025.
- Apply for various Supplemental Permits: Garage Sale Permit, Single Event Arts & Crafts, and Group Promoter License.

Our goal is to improve our processes to better serve our customers. This new software is part of our ongoing efforts to make business interactions more efficient and user-friendly.

Who is Impacted?
All businesses operating within the city limits of Columbia will be affected by this transition.
What do I need to do as a licensee?
- Once you receive your renewal you can – Go to the new self-service portal using the log in information provided in the top-right corner of your renewal enclosed (Account Number & Web Pin) to: Renew your business license online, report on Hospitality Tax or Tourism Development, Pay dues, Manage account updates, and more. You will not need to register to use, unless you are missing the account number.

- Business Licensing will be closed on January 16 -17, 2025 for the system change. We will be open again on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 during normal business hours 8:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m.
