The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Upstate SC Chapter announces another record breaking year for the local 2017 Man & Woman of the Year

May 17, 2017

A Greenville woman and a Greer man have been named the winners of this year’s Man & Woman of the Year of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Upstate SC Chapter.

The two winners were Beth Waring from C.F. Sauer and Tommy Meadows from Allstate Insurance Co., who raised $98,526 and $74,480 respectively to support LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and ensure that patients have access to lifesaving treatments.

During a spirited ten-week fundraising period beginning with a kickoff celebration, candidates across the country compete in honor of a local boy or girl, Joe and Lilly, who is a blood cancer survivor to raise the most funds to ensure a world without blood cancers. Candidates and their campaign teams are judged solely on their success in raising money, each dollar counting as one vote. Their totals are then considered for the national title. Candidates in each chapter vie for the local title, and the highest fundraisers nationally earn the title of national Man & Woman of the Year. The national titles will be awarded to the top fundraisers in the country, to be announced this summer.

Beth Waring has been part of a Legacy Team for C. F. Sauer, called Team Dukes, that has collectively raised over $340,000 since 2012, simply amazing!  Beth was participating this year in honor of her father who was diagnosed with cancer last year and is aiming to hit the total that gives her naming research rights in his memory.  Tommy Meadows has also been part of a Legacy Team for Allstate, Team Good Hands Warriors that has raised almost $200,000 in 3 short years. Tommy just wanted to make a difference in a disease that still has a diagnosis every 3 minutes.

A major thank you to our sponsors Bon Secours, Waffle House, National Institute of Collaborative Healthcare (NICH), GSA Business, and Land Rover of Greenville.  Thank you to all 15 candidates who collectively raised over $440,000 with the incredible support of their campaign teams and community.
