The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2024 Midlands Visionaries of the Year philanthropic competition kicks off

February 20, 2024

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Midlands Region has officially kicked off its annual iconic philanthropic competition, Visionaries of the Year to raise funds for LLS and the fight against blood cancer, a disease diagnosed every 180 seconds in the U.S. and has no current means of prevention.

Visionaries of the Year has helped LLS invest more than $1.6 billion in cutting-edge research worldwide, fueling nearly every critical advancement in blood cancer treatment that spans the most promising cancer research. And, as the leading source of free blood cancer information, education, and support, LLS helps blood cancer patients and their families through a wide range of free services.

Previously called, “Man & Woman of the Year”, the evolution to “Visionaries of the Year” is part of LLS’s recognized need to continue innovating participant experiences and events to ensure LLS creates the largest possible mission impact for blood cancer patients and their families.

“Together, these relentless and inspiring visionaries are helping LLS achieve one unified goal — a world without blood cancer,” said Amanda Yancey, Executive Director of LLS’s Georgia-South Carolina Region.

The funds raised through Visionaries of the Year are used for:

  • Research to advance lifesaving therapies like immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine, which are saving lives today.
  • Free blood cancer information, education and support for patients and families.
  • National and local advocacy efforts driving policies that accelerate new treatments and ensure patients have access to care so that they can live longer, healthier lives.
