The Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department announce the Gang Awareness Hoop Fest starting January 22 at 4 pm at Eastover Park.

This free event, in coordination with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, is geared toward middle and high school students to educate them on the growing concern of gangs and how to protect themselves from any involvement. The event will provide a Live DJ, Free Food, Free Giveaways, Motivational Speakers, Basketball Challenges and much more!

Newly-elected Richland County Council Chairman, Overture Walker, officers from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and other local elected officials and community leaders will be ‘shooting hoops’ to help raise awareness.

“This event is so important to the young people and families in our community. We are happy to team up with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on this initiative for our youth.” stated Lakita Watson, Executive Director of the Richland County Recreation Commission.

RCRC recently announced that they will also be hosting a luncheon with Sheriff Leon Lott and local Police Chiefs to discuss youth violence on February 2nd. Addressing youth violence is one of the top five goals for the Commission for 2022.
