The Salvation Army of the Midlands serves 2,500 meals to First Responders and Flood Survivors

October 7, 2015
COLUMBIA, SC – The Salvation Army of the Midlands was here long before the storms and we will stay here to serve our community. As of today we have served 2,500 meals to first responders and flood survivors. Currently, The Salvation Army is serving our state with 5 mobile feeding units. We also have 12 mobile feeding units in route to provide food, water, emotional and spiritual care to the flood survivors of South Carolina.
We are working closely alongside local authorities and emergency management divisions to provide assistance as needed. The Salvation Army has also deployed an Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) that is working from The Salvation Army Center for Worship and Service located at 3024 Farrow Road, Columbia SC, 29203 to coordinate all Salvation Army mass care efforts for the state of South Carolina.
The Salvation Army uses trained volunteers to provide initial disaster relief.  Any volunteers interested in volunteering in this disaster that are not previously trained should register on our website at www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.
About The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services
“The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army’s disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.
