The Sierra Club of South Carolina announces new Chair

The South Carolina Sierra Club announced today the election of Dr. Bruce K. Cole as the new chair of its state executive committee.

Dr. Cole is Managing Director of Palmetto Realty Advisors, LLC, a provider of technology solutions for the real estate industry located in Columbia, SC. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of SC Economics and is founder of the Richard T. Greener Institute for Social Policy Research. He is a past Richland County Airport commissioner and assistant finance professor at the Darla Moore School of Business. He is a certified public accountant and holds degrees from Clemson, Stanford, Northeastern and Harvard Universities.

Founded on July 1, 1978, the Sierra Club is state’s largest grassroots environmental organization with over 40,000 members and supporters in South Carolina. In addition to leading outdoor adventures, the Sierra Club works to safeguard the health of our communities, protect wildlife, and preserve our remaining wild places through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying and litigation.

Dr. Cole is the first African American to serve as chair in the state organization’s history and was the 2019 recipient of its Joe Neal Environmental Justice Award. He and his wife, Lady June, are long-time residents of the Forest Acres community and members of Shandon Baptist Church. They have two children.
