The Villa at Martha Franks Set to Reopen with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
May 14, 2025A landmark in Laurens is reopening its doors to the public. The Villa at Martha Franks Retirement Community, known for its timeless elegance and deep community ties, will officially reopen as a rental venue following a grand re-opening celebration on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
For decades, the Villa has served as the backdrop for countless cherished moments—weddings, baby showers, anniversary parties, prom photos, and family gatherings. Its stately charm and historical ambiance have made it a treasured location for generations of Laurens County residents. Visitors—whether returning locals or newcomers—are often captivated by the Villa’s architecture and rich heritage, including its unique connection to the five families who once called it home and its role in the broader Martha Franks Retirement Community.
Originally closed in 2018 to address critical structural renovations, restoration was completed in late 2019. However, plans to reopen were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after years of anticipation, the Villa is once again ready to serve the community.
“We are thrilled to welcome the community back to the Villa,” said Lynn McQueen, Director of Community Outreach at Martha Franks. “The response over the years has made it clear that this historic venue holds a special place in the hearts of many, and we’re honored to open its doors once again for new memories to be made.”
The newly reopened Villa will be available for private event rentals, with Martha Franks resident Betty Lowry (and longtime resident of Laurens County) serving as Event Coordinator. With deep local roots in the area, Lowry will be the point of contact for those wishing to reserve the venue for events such as weddings, anniversary parties, baby showers, high school prom pictures, photo shoots and more.
The public is invited to attend the Grand Re-opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and celebration on May 19. Light refreshments will be served, and guests will have the opportunity to tour the Villa and learn more about its history and future use.
