The Village Group seeks to ‘ignite passions’ during Palmetto Giving Day

As Georgetown County prepares for the annual Palmetto Giving Day, one local nonprofit is calling on the community to help “rewrite the story” for the area’s youth.
The Village Group, a Plantersville-based organization dedicated to youth development, has announced its participation in the 36-hour online giving event scheduled for May 5-6. The group aims to secure funding for its “Future in Focus” initiative, which provides critical educational and economic resources to students in rural Georgetown County.
Bridging the Economic Gap 
The mission is driven by a stark reality: in Plantersville, the median personal income is $38,097, and 37% of the population earns less than $50,000 annually. Leaders at The Village Group say these financial barriers often limit the opportunities available to local children.
The Village Group doesn’t see itself as just another nonprofit organization. They are a movement that’s not just filling educational gaps but also working to ignite passions, celebrate talents, and open doors to incredible possibilities for the young people it serves.
A Record of Transformation
The nonprofit reported significant impact over the past year, serving 270 scholars through the Plantersville Summer Academy and an average of 60-65 students daily in its after-school programs.
The funds raised during Palmetto Giving Day will directly support the Plantersville Summer Academy (PSA)—a six-week program designed to combat summer learning loss—and the Plantersville Enrichment Academy (PEA), which provides STEAM activities, tutoring, and mentoring at Plantersville Elementary School.
