The Whiskey Hotel upstairs bar and patio is now open every weekend and welcoming guests this fall

The Matador brought its Mexican-inspired cuisine and agave spirits to Greenville’s West End in May 2025, and now invites guests to enjoy the upstairs Whiskey Hotel and rooftop patio this fall. Named for the neon sign that crowns the building, the Whiskey Hotel offers an intimate space and elevated dining experience, with rooftop views overlooking downtown Greenville. 

Where the Past Lives and the Spirit Flows

Constructed in the 1920s, the building has long been a Greenville landmark, known for its storied upstairs bar and iconic neon sign. The Matador’s Whiskey Hotel brings new energy into the space, blending hacienda-inspired design with a warm, candlelit atmosphere, a lively dining room, and an inviting rooftop patio. Guests can also enjoy handmade touches, from the custom-made bartop to the stained glass by local artist Brad Brown. 

“We didn’t just open a restaurant—we checked into a legacy,” said Zak Melang, owner of The Matador. “This place was waiting for the right story to bring it back to life. We listened. Then we built it.”

The Whiskey Hotel embodies The Matador’s philosophy: combining bold design, handcrafted interiors, and a bar and cocktail menu featuring scratch-made Mexican-inspired cuisine and one of the largest selections of tequila and agave spirits in the Carolinas. Guests are invited to enjoy the Whiskey Hotel and patio Fridays and Saturdays from 4-11 p.m. and Sundays from 12-8 p.m.

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos at The Matador

From October 31 to November 2, guests can celebrate Dia de los Muertos at the Whiskey Hotel. Join The Matador for discounted drink specials all weekend, complemented by culturally accurate decorations throughout.

In addition to its dining and cocktail service, The Whiskey Hotel and Rooftop Patio are also available for private events of all sizes — from wedding rehearsal dinners and birthday celebrations to networking mixers and corporate gatherings. The entire upstairs floor, including the patio, may be reserved exclusively for your group.

There are no room fees or guest minimums — only food and beverage minimums apply — making The Whiskey Hotel a versatile space for both intimate gatherings and large-scale celebrations.
