The Wiz to Bring Soul and Magic to Simpsonville Arts Center This June

May 4, 2026

The yellow brick road is leading straight to the Upstate this summer as the Simpsonville Arts Center prepares to host a soulful production of the Tony Award-winning musical, The Wiz.

Scheduled for a limited three-day run from June 12 to June 14, the production—billed as “The Original”—promises a high-energy retelling of L. Frank Baum’s classic tale, infused with the iconic soul, gospel, and funk score that redefined Broadway in the 1970s.

A Local Creative Powerhouse

The production brings together a seasoned creative team dedicated to showcasing local talent within the historic walls of the Arts Center:

  • Director: Clark Nesbitt

  • Musical Director: Michael Young

  • Choreographer: Tamera Brown

  • Music Compositions: William Burgess

The show features beloved hits like “Ease on Down the Road” and “Home,” delivered through a contemporary lens that emphasizes Dorothy’s journey of self-discovery and community.

Showtimes and Ticket Information

The Simpsonville Arts Center, located in the heart of the city at 110 Academy Street, will offer three performances to accommodate theatergoers:

  • Friday, June 12: 7:00 PM

  • Saturday, June 13: 3:00 PM

  • Sunday, June 14: 3:00 PM

Continuing the Cultural Momentum

The arrival of The Wiz is part of a larger surge in programming at the Simpsonville Arts Center, which has recently transformed from a historic school building into a vibrant hub for the local arts scene. With its flexible performance space and focus on high-quality local productions, the Center continues to establish Simpsonville as a destination for performing arts outside of the immediate Greenville downtown area.
