The Woodlands at Furman creates

May 30, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – May 30, 2012 – More than 200 residents and staff of The Woodlands at Furman took part in a flash mob Wednesday as part of National Senior Health and Fitness Day.

The event was created by Woodlands staff over the past two months as a way of showing the vibrancy and vitality of senior living communities. The event started with a couple touring The Woodlands who when they asked whether continuing care retirement communities were boring, Katie Perry’s Firework started playing and several residents in the main lounge began a choreographed routine.

They soon were joined by other Woodlands residents and then a large mass that moved out the front doors, past the entrance columns and onto the main lawn to perform. The residents wore brightly colored shirts with Woodlands Flash Mob 2012 on the back.

We wanted to show that CCRCs are not stale, said Troy Cannaday, executive director at The Woodlands. And we wanted to highlight the creativity of our staff along with talent of our residents.

The routine ended with a banner being unveiled from the top of The Woodlands’ main building posing the question, What Will They Do Next? Residents also fired flicker confetti at the end of the song to go along with the upbeat Firework theme.

The idea of a flash mob routine came from, Andrea Payment, the Woodlands’ lifestyles director, and was choreographed by staff member Loretta Geisler. Twelve cameras filmed the event.
