Columbia Opportunity Resource Organizes Massive Volunteer Effort

COLUMBIA, SC – January 14, 2013 – Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR), is currently organizing hundreds of volunteers for the 2013 World Beer Festival that will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

The festival offers beer lovers the opportunity to sample more than 150 beer varieties from more than 100 breweries.  Standard admission to a single session is $40, which includes beer samples, educational sessions by industry experts and a festival tasting glass.

The World Beer Festival and COR have worked together for the past 5 years in a coordinated effort to bring this eclectic craft beer educational festival to Columbia.  As a charity partner, COR helps recruit and manage the volunteer staff that assists in running the festival.  In return, WBF makes a charitable contribution to COR.

“COR works vigorously to engage and connect young professionals in the community and their success is evident in the amazing turn out of volunteers we have each year,” said Daniel Bradford, Producer of the World Beer Festival.

“We have sold out the afternoon session for volunteers,” said Katherine Swartz, executive director of COR.  “We are close to maximum capacity but are still looking for and accepting volunteers for the evening session.  The volunteers who work alongside us for this event are a symbol of what COR is about; they’re ambassadors, stewards and people who want to be a part of something great that improves quality of life in Columbia.”

“Events like the World Beer Festival are critical to establishing Columbia’s reputation as the New Southern Hot Spot,” said David Laird, COR Chairman.  “Not only does the festival generate much needed tourism and hospitality impact, but the organizers are re-investing in our community through charitable contributions.  We’re proud to stand beside the World Beer Festival as a key partner.”

Volunteers are fashioned with a WBF t-shirt and are treated to a special volunteer-only appreciation celebration after the festival that includes sampling of beers from the festival, tasty food and a raffle for fun beer-related prizes. If you are interested in volunteering for the festival, please visit www.ourcor.org, or call 803.733.1123.

The festival offers two sessions, the first session will be from noon to 4 p.m., and the second session will be from 6 to 10 p.m.  Tickets for the Columbia 2013 World Beer Festival are now on sale and can be purchased online at www.AllAboutBeer.com/WBF or at participating festival sponsor locations:  Green’s, Morganelli’s Party Store and World of Beer.  The Columbia World Beer Festival is also sponsored by the Bet Mar Liquid Hobby Shop, Carolina Ale House, Columbia Regional Business Journal and Flying Saucer Draught Emporium.
