Thomas M. Weiland, AIA, named GMK’s Director of Architecture

COLUMBIA, SC – GMK Associates, Inc., announced that Thomas M. Weiland AIA, has been promoted to the position of Director of Architecture for the firm. In this role, Mr. Weiland will manage the technical staff and oversee the design work of GMK’s Architecture Division and will continue to serve as lead designer for existing customers and for large, complex assignments. Mr. Weiland previously served as the firm’s principal architect.

Mr. Weiland brings more than 20 years of experience and an extensive background in commercial and residential design to the GMK team. For the past 18 years, he has been involved in all of GMK’s projects for municipal government, energy, higher education, and private commercial clients.

“Tom’s expertise and long history with the firm make him a perfect match for taking on this expanded role,” said Jeff Baker, GMK’s president of Architecture/Engineering/Construction Services. “He has consistently provided exceptional designs and client-focused services throughout his tenure with GMK.”

Mr. Weiland is a registered architect in South Carolina and North Carolina and holds a bachelor of environmental design (architecture) and a bachelor of arts (architecture) from North Carolina State University. He is a member of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and has earned certification through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is focused on leading a talented team at GMK to continue the delivery of well designed, inspiring, innovative, and efficient facilities.
