Thorne Celebrates 6 Years in Laurens

September 2, 2020

In 2014, family owned and operated Thorne Ambulance Service (TAS) opened their Laurens office and began providing full-time service to the citizens and visitors of Laurens County. Ryan Thorne, founder and CEO, says, “coming to Laurens was an easy decision for our family. We saw a real need in the community, and we aimed to fill the void in the mobile medical industry.” Six years later, Thorne believes they have done just that. “When I reflect over the last few years, I think about the number of lives that our clinicians have positively impacted. I think about the relationships that we have built with families all over Laurens county.”

Today, Thorne Ambulance continues to provide exceptional clinical care and medical transportation to and from area nursing homes, hospitals and assisted living communities. “We have built incredible partnerships with the skilled nursing, hospice, and assisted living communities within Laurens County”, states Shonda Simpkins, Administrative Manager of Thorne Ambulance. “The community associates quality and compassion with our brand, and we are so thankful for the opportunity that we have been given to serve.”

Over the years, Thorne has responded to many unique requests within the county. One of the most notable was a large-scale incident that occurred at the former Bailey Manor assisted living facility. “I recall that [event] being a very challenging day for all emergency responders within the county. Together, we worked seamlessly to provide the resources necessary to safely and effectively evacuate several individuals. We believe that this response was one of our early and defining moments within the county. It highlighted our ability to work collaboratively with multiple agencies, while keeping our focus on what truly matters – the community.”

Thorne has expanded their service offerings in Laurens County and provides Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS/ALS) ambulance services along with wheelchair transportation. Additionally, the Laurens office serves as the base for service to Union, Newberry, and Greenwood counties. Thorne Ambulance Service is actively seeking motivated, compassionate and professional providers to join their Laurens team. Whether you have years of experience or are simply interested in a career in mobile medicine, Thorne has developed a pathway for your success.
