Thornwell Foster Care Program – South Carolina Expansion

That’s because it’s hard to measure the lifegiving impact of providing a loving home to a child in need.

For over 145 years, we’ve been a refuge for children and families. And while our ultimate goal is to come alongside families and help them heal before their situation results in a breakdown of the family, that is not always possible. That’s where you come in.

As of September 16, 2020, the Department of Social Services (DSS) reports that 4,144 children in South Carolina are in foster care and only 2,963 families are licensed to care for them.

1,181 South Carolina children have no place to call home.

Every day you’ll find our staff recruiting and licensing families who want to become foster families and then providing these same families with access to experts in care, a foster community, resources, support, and extensive training.

With ever-present shortages of foster care homes, we believe that, together, we can provide relief for hundreds of waiting children.

Your faithfulness helped us start this program in the Upstate of South Carolina. And it’s your continuous gifts and commitment that have helped us to sustain and grow to serve more children in need.

You are among the first to know that Thornwell’s Foster Care Program is expanding into the Midlands and Low Country of South Carolina.

In partnership with South Carolina DSS and Heartfelt Calling, we are now assisting with the case management of an additional 35 families across South Carolina who are waiting to complete licensing or training requirements.

Thanks to you, more than 60 new families are now equipped to love children in foster care.
