Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg has honored three local residents and college employees with awards. Dr. Jaime Browning of Simpsonville, SC, has been named Chiropractor of the Year; Dr. Brian Dooley of Greenville, SC, received the Distinguished Service Award; and Dr. Billie Harrington of Chesnee, SC, received the Service to Sherman College Award. These individuals were recognized as part of Sherman College’s 49th Lyceum, an annual homecoming and continuing education event held April 28-30 on campus and attended by more than 650 doctors and students.

The Chiropractor of the Year Award is an honor bestowed upon doctors who have given extraordinary time and effort to advance Sherman College and the chiropractic profession. Dr. Jaime Browning is a 2009 Sherman graduate and is an associate professor and chair of the Technique Department. She has an advanced certification in Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific technique and is a 2019 Diplomate in Craniocervical Junction Procedures as confirmed by the International Chiropractic Association (ICA). Since 2012, she has served as chair of Sherman College’s Institutional Review Board and oversees human protections for the college’s research projects; she is also the chair of the Academy of Chiropractic Excellence intern program. In 2018, Dr. Browning was named research chair of the ICA’s Upper Cervical Council, and she was honored as Researcher of the Year in 2020. She and her husband, Kyle, live in Simpsonville with their three highly energetic kids: Addison, Fisher and General.

The Distinguished Service Award is given to a Sherman graduate who has distinguished himself for service to the community, the profession and Sherman College. Dr. Brian Dooley is a 2005 summa cum laude Sherman College graduate and has served as lead instructor for various courses through the years; he currently serves the college as dean of clinics. Dr. Dooley was a graduate of the first class of the Academy of Chiropractic Philosophers in 2007 and now serves as an instructor for that course and many other chiropractic programs, presenting nationally and internationally. He has written chiropractic articles and presented research to his colleagues. He is a member of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations, where he serves as treasurer on the board of directors. Dr. Dooley and his wife, Dawn, live in Greenville with their son, Jackson. Their adult daughter, Sara, is currently an upper quarter student at Sherman College.

The Service to Sherman College Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary, unselfish and noteworthy service to the institution. Dr. Billie Harrington joined Sherman College in 2015 as director for the Office of Teaching and Learning and has led the office’s growth to a now three-person Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL). The CITL mission focuses on research-based faculty support programs, centered on effective pedagogical approaches with the strategic use of instructional technologies to transform the delivery of chiropractic education at Sherman College. Dr. Harrington graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012 with a Ph.D. in curriculum and teaching and a specialization in cultural studies. Dr. Harrington teaches bible fellowship at First Baptist North Spartanburg, serves as auxiliary president for the Chesnee Cowpens camp of Gideons International, and regularly volunteers at Hendrix Elementary School. She is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe and lives in Chesnee with her husband, Charley, and their dog, Gracie. The Harringtons are parents of a blended family with five adult children (Emma, Abbey, Seth, Claire and Sarah) and four grandchildren.
