Time Warner Cable Business Class Employees Donate $10,000 to Charity

September 30, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – September 30, 2009 – They could have taken the money for themselves, but Time Warner Cable Business Class (TWCBC) employees in the Carolina Region are donating $10,000 to local charities.  The employees are the winners of a company-wide sales contest.   Instead of keeping the cash, they decided to donate the contest winnings to several charities in North and South Carolina.  The employees say they wanted to donate the money to emphasize Time Warner Cable’s company values of community and teamwork.

The employees work in the territorial sales organization in the Carolina Region.  They earned first place in a national, company-wide contest called Fill the Funnel where a grand prize of $10,000.00 was awarded to the team that achieved the highest percentage to sales quota. Instead of claiming the prize for themselves, the 40-member winning team made a collective decision to donate its reward in the markets where they live.

The Columbia arm of the sales team decided to donate their portion of the winnings ($2500.00) to Special Olympics of South Carolina. The organization works with more than 16,000 athletes in South Carolina. With only 7 paid employees, Special Olympics of South Carolina relies heavily on donations and their vast network of volunteers.

Our team is proud to donate to such a deserving organization and we look forward to participating in an upcoming event, said Jim Nagel, sales manager in Columbia, SC.

Charities chosen by the regional sales team include A Child’s Place, Autism Speaks, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Heart Association, 2Young Foundation and Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care. In addition to their generous donations, TWCBC employees will also support these organizations by volunteering to raise awareness and additional funds.

I am so proud of our sales team for dominating this national contest and giving its reward to charity, said Albert Blackmon, vice president of sales & marketing. The fact the team is donating the entire amount really shows our organizations sense of community, teamwork and selflessness.

The decision demonstrates 2 of 7 new company values -Community and Teamwork.  These values, which describe how the company delivers its mission of connecting people and businesses, include Initiative, Innovation, Inclusion, Integrity, Excellence, Community and Teamwork.
