Town of Irmo renames Irmo Town Park to honor longtime public services director Whitt Cline
April 16, 2026The Town of Irmo is proud to announce the official renaming of the Irmo Town Park to the Whitt Cline Community Park. This change, formalized by the unanimous adoption of Resolution No. 26-04 on March 24, 2026, serves as a permanent tribute to Mr. Whitt Cline’s twenty-five years of exceptional service to the community. The new park sign was installed at the park on April 15, 2026.
A Legacy of Environmental Stewardship
As the Town’s retired Public Service Director and Arborist, Mr. Cline was a steadfast guardian of Irmo’s natural resources. His leadership was instrumental in Irmo receiving its first Tree City USA designation in 2009, a distinction the Town has proudly maintained every year since.
Mayor Bill Danielson emphasized the significance of the tribute, noting that Cline’s influence is woven into the very fabric of the town.
“It is a great honor and privilege to name our former Irmo Town Park after Whitt Cline,” said Mayor Danielson. “Whitt has been a dedicated servant to this community for over two decades. His expertise in managing the beauty of our parks and public spaces is unparalleled, and his passion will now be remembered here forever.”
Transforming the Community Landscape
Town Administrator Jim Crosland, who worked alongside Cline for twenty-five years, noted that the director’s standards for excellence are visible in every corner of the municipality.
“Whitt’s dedication to the beautification of our Town is unmatched,” said Crosland. “Every park you visit, and every tree planted along Woodrow Street, is a testament to his work.”
Former Town Administrator Courtney Dennis described Cline as a visionary who saw potential in every corner of the community. “He was a magician in turning basic spaces into works of art,” Dennis remarked. “Under his leadership, every street reflected his pride. He elevated the town and kept our community blooming year-round.”
A Community Vision Realized
During the dedication ceremony, surrounded by a large gathering of friends, family, and current and former colleagues, Mr. Cline reflected on the collaborative spirit of the town.
“I appreciate everybody that’s here tonight,” Cline said. “I’ve got friends, work colleagues, and family here. I consider myself a very lucky man tonight. We’ve got a good thing going here in Irmo, and I expect it to keep going.”
The newly named Whitt Cline Community Park, located at 7330 Carlisle Street, stands today as a living monument to the craftsmanship and care championed by Mr. Cline during his quarter-century of public service.
