Town of Ridgeville Supports Red Cross Heroes for Fire Survivors Campaign

August 11, 2016

James Williams, the Mayor of Ridgeville, South Carolina, recently made a donation to the Heroes for Fire Survivors Campaign of the American Red Cross of Lowcountry SC.

Across the state, every 4 hours the Red Cross responds to requests from local fire departments to come to the aid of survivors of house fires. As the only human services organization on the scene of a home fire, the Red Cross assists those affected with basic resources such as temporary shelter, funds for meals and clothes, replacement medications, access to health services and mental health counseling, and referrals to partner agencies, as well as helping families create a comprehensive plan for long-term recovery.

This past year, the Heroes for Fire Survivors Campaign of the Lowcountry assisted more nearly 1,200 individuals affected by home fires. Disaster response to home fires is one of the many services the American Red Cross provides to the local community. In addition, the organization offers blood collection services, educates the community with lifesaving courses such First Aid and CPR, and provides emergency communication services to members of the armed forces and their families. Red Cross assistance is made possible through financial donations from the community and the volunteer support of local citizens.
