Trident Technical College to Begin Offering Motorcycle License Waiver Tests

January 15, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development (TTC) announced that it is participating in a pilot program for the South Carolina Technical College System and will serve as an official provider of the Motorcycle License Waiver Test in conjunction with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SC DMV).

As part of this program, individuals with a S.C. Motorcycle Learner’s Permit who successfully complete the TTC Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC) or Motorcycle Experienced Rider (BRC2) course are now eligible to take the Motorcycle License Waiver Test through TTC. Participants successfully completing this test within 14 days of the completed BRC or BRC2 course earn a SC DMV Motorcycle License
Waiver to be presented to their local DMV to receive a license. The first test offering is scheduled for Jan. 17 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus in North Charleston.

Testing time slots of 45-minutes will be pre-scheduled upon the conclusion of the previous BRC or BRC2 course and students must be pre-enrolled for the test on one of the two following Saturdays. The test must be scheduled within 14 calendar days after but not prior to successful completion of the BRC or BRC2 course for the license waiver to be accepted by the DMV. Students can test on the motorcycle on which they took the BRC course (student can use a bike provided by TTC or student can bring their own bike). However, at the presentation of waiver papers to the DMV for the license, or if recalled by the DMV for a re-test, the individual may be asked by the DMV to show proof of ownership of their own motorcycle. BRC2 students use their own bikes for this test.

For the spring 2015 term, the one-day Motorcycle License Waiver Test will be offered at TTC’s Main Campus in North Charleston on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the following dates: Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 14, Feb. 21, Feb. 28, March 14, March 21, March 28, April 11, April 18 and April 25. Costs $25 to register. Registration for these classes after BRC or BRC2 course completion can only be made by calling 843.574.6152 or completed in person in Bldg. 910 on TTC’s Main Campus in North Charleston. No online registrations are accepted for these tests.
