Trouble Sleeping? Wear Socks to Bed

February 24, 2021

The struggle is real.

Millions of people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Sleep is a vital part of our life and much needed to stay healthy and be productive during waking hours. But sometimes sleep is hard to come by. It may be that you toss and turn trying to go to sleep, or you wake up many times during the night.

It sounds strange but going to bed with socks on may help you get to sleep faster.

A study from 2007 reports that those who wore normal socks or even heated socks to bed fell asleep faster. Why is this?

Warming up the feet and hands makes the blood vessels dilate, a response that is called vasodilation. This, in turn, releases heat through the skin and helps to lower core body temperature. This, in turn, sends a message to the brain that it is bedtime.

So, there you have it, research suggests that warm skin is associated with getting to sleep faster.

Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? If so, go ahead and try it!
