TSC Joins Columbia’s “Green Business Member” Club

July 10, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – July 10, 2009 – The Tom Sawyer Company (TSC) has become a member of an exclusive club – the city of Columbia’s Green Business Program.  The program recognizes businesses that operate in an environmentally friendly manner and encourage other businesses to adopt green business practices.

Officially, it is called the city of Columbia’s Climate Protection Action Campaign or “CPAC.”  To be a Green Business Club member, companies must have a “Green Team” and meet environmentally-friendly criteria established by the city.  The program was organized shortly after Columbia signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Climate Protection Resolution back in October 2006. So far, more than 800 cities across the country are participating in the program, and TSC joins over 80 area businesses in the club

This is the second time the Tom Sawyer Company has been recognized during 2009 for taking proactive steps to improve our environmental record while improving the bottom-line.  In April, TSC President Carolyn Sawyer accepted the “Sustainable Purpose Award” during the Women Presidents’ Organization’s (WPO) National Conference in San Diego, CA.  The annual award, sponsored by WPO and Sam’s Club, is given to an organization that is a leader in recycling and energy conservation and places emphasis on saving our natural resources.

TSC formed our Green Team at the beginning of this year.  The team trains employees and clients on how to reduce our carbon footprint at work and home while saving time and money.  According to Green Team Leader, Emily Bloxdorf, the company has seen substantial savings in office supplies and energy consumption.

TSC is proud to be a member of this exclusive club.  Your business can join also.  If you would like more information on how your company can “Go Green,” please contact TSC’s Green Strategist, Emily Bloxdorf at (803) 252-8773 or by email: [email protected].
