Popular scratch-made southern restaurant to open its Columbia, S.C. location in early 2024

The BullStreet District, known as the largest urban development project on the East Coast, will become the future home to Columbia, South Carolina’s first Tupelo Honey Cafe. The popular restaurant, known for scratch-made southern food and handmade cocktails, is set to open its 5,800 sq. ft. location in the first quarter of 2024 inside the new Bennet at BullStreet mixed-use complex.

“When I first visited the BullStreet District, I knew it was not a matter of if we wanted to be there, but when. The ‘when’ is now,” says Stephen Frabitore, CEO of Tupelo Honey Cafe. “BullStreet is a vibrant, mixed-use district that reflects the authenticity of downtown Columbia, and we are excited to be a part of all the good things happening in the district and city.”

Tupelo Honey will feature a variety of brunch, lunch and dinner options, including its most popular southern dishes such as honey-dusted fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles. Farm fresh sides and decadent desserts will add to the authentic southern fare menu.

In addition to its extensive menu, Tupelo Honey features a robust bar program. Guests can choose from numerous signature handmade cocktails such as “Peach Don’t Kill My Vibe,” a sparkling sangria; “Tupelomo,” a fruity tequila cocktail; and “The Debutante,” a twist on a classic vodka drink with house-made lavender lemonade. An extensive selection of wine, beer and liquor, including numerous options from local distilleries and breweries, will round out the beverage menu.

Tupelo Honey focuses on a responsibly sourced ethos, including sustainably grown and “forever free” proteins that are free of hormones and anti-biotics.

“Tupelo Honey coming to the BullStreet not only solidifies Columbia’s status as a great culinary destination in the southeast, but it is also a powerful statement on the growth and development of businesses in this district,” says Robert Hughes, president of Hughes Development Corporation, the master developer of the BullStreet District. “With their proven track record of success and commitment to excellence, Tupelo Honey brings a reputation that is both celebrated and well-deserved, adding to the vision of BullStreet becoming a premier destination for all of the Midlands.”

Founded in Asheville, N.C. in 2000, Tupelo Honey currently has 20 restaurants in 13 states, including Greenville and Myrtle Beach locations in South Carolina. Tupelo Honey is continuing to expand their operations nationwide with new locations in Indianapolis, Indiana; Lenexa, Kansas; Omaha, Nebraska; Las Colinas, Texas and others in development.

Tupelo Honey will occupy retail space on the ground floor of Bennet at BullStreet, which is located in the geographic center of the BullStreet District —neighboring Segra Park, the First Base Building and the new WestLawn Building.
