Two Furman University Staff Members Assume New Positions at School

GREENVILLE, SC – May 14, 2008 – Boyd Yarborough, current director of University Housing, has been named assistant vice president for Administrative Services.  Jason Cassidy, who currently serves as assistant director of University Housing, will become director of Housing and Residence Life.  Both will assume their new positions August 1.

The assistant vice president for Administrative Services is responsible for planning, direction, coordination and control of auxiliary enterprises and service functions at the university, which includes Dining Services, University Bookstore, Mail Services, Golf Course, Public Safety, and Conference and Event Services.  The director also supervises the purchasing and travel office. 

The director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for all student housing at Furman.  Specific responsibilities include the supervision of the housing staff, overseeing the housing of 2,425 undergraduate students, collaborating with summer camps and conferences, and promoting safety and security in campus housing.

Yarborough, a Furman graduate, has been director of University Housing since 1999. He earned a master’s degree from Appalachian State University, and an Ed.D. from Florida State University.  Prior to coming to Furman, he held similar positions at Frostburg State University and Florida State.  He has made over 40 presentations at educational and professional conferences, and was named the Association of Furman Students Administrator of the Year award in 2006.

Cassidy has been assistant director of University Housing since 2002.  A graduate of Bethany (W.Va.) College, he received his master’s degree from Canisius (N.Y.) College and his Ph.D. from Clemson University.  At Furman, he is chair of the Substance Abuse Coalition, a member of the Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness Team and an academic advisor.  He was named Canisius College Outstanding CSPA Alumnus in 2007.
