Two Sowel Gray members named Lawyers of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC – September 27, 2012 – Becky Laffitte and Biff Sowell, two of the founding members of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, have been honored as Lawyers of the Year in the 2013 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Laffitte was named the Columbia Insurance Law Lawyer of the Year, while Sowell was selected as the Columbia Bet-the-Company Litigation Lawyer of the Year.
The Lawyer of the Year is the cream of the crop of attorneys selected by their peers for inclusion in the annual The Best Lawyers in America. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and metropolitan area is honored as the Lawyer of the Year.
The Best Lawyers directory, used by thousands of lawyers and corporations, is regarded as a preeminent guide to the legal profession in the United States. Inclusion is based on 4.4 million confidential evaluations by the top attorneys in the country.
Laffitte is a graduate of Columbia College, where she currently serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees, and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Sowell graduated from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
In addition to the Lawyer of the Year recognition, Best Lawyers honored Laffitte’s work in four other practice areas: Litigation, Construction; Personal Injury Litigation, Defendants; Transportation Law; and Product Liability Litigation, Defendants. Sowell also was included in the Commercial Litigation practice area in Best Lawyers.
Five other Sowell Gray members were included in the 2013 edition of Best Lawyers, earning recognition in five different practice areas.
Best Law Firms in America, a companion publication to Best Lawyers, is scheduled for release in the fall. For the past two years, Sowell Gray has been included in Best Law Firms in addition to the individual recognition its attorneys.
