June 2, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – On 5/28/14, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a member of the Appropriations Committee, Armed Services Committee, Budget Committee, and Judiciary Committee, joined representatives from Harsco Rail and the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) for a tour of Harsco Rail’s manufacturing facility and headquarters in Columbia, SC.

Upon his arrival, Senator Graham was welcomed by Harsco Rail’s senior leadership team which then briefed the Senator on the company’s profile, history, and current operations. Harsco Rail is a major supplier of railway track maintenance and construction equipment, parts, and services. With over 500 employees at their Columbia, SC headquarters, their domestic customers include Class 1 railroads, short line and regional railroads, and rail transit agencies. Harsco Rail also supplies maintenance-of-way equipment to numerous international railroads.

After a safety briefing, Harsco Rail’s Columbia Plant Manager, Craig Fairley led the Senator on a tour of the facility, which manufactures maintenance-of-way equipment such as tampers, tie inserters, grinders, and track renewal equipment. During the tour, the Senator had the opportunity to see first-hand a Harsco Rail Mark IV Production/Switch Tamper in action and learn how track maintenance is essential to rail safety and the longevity of rail infrastructure.

“It was a pleasure to have a visit from Senator Graham and his staff to our South Carolina manufacturing facility. We have worked closely with the Senator’s office in the past and we appreciate all the help and support he has provided to our company, other South Carolina businesses, and the national economy,” said Scott Jacoby, President of Harsco Rail.
