Union’s American Legion Post 22 Donates $1,000 to Fisher House, Supporting Military Families in Need

October 27, 2024

At the recent 2024 American Legion Fall Conference, South Carolina’s American Legion District 10 Commander Wayne Hipp proudly presented a $1,000 donation for the Fisher House in Columbia, SC. The donation, generously contributed by American Legion Post 22 in Union, SC, was accepted by State Commander Bruce Donegan. This heartfelt contribution was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Union Post 22 members, led by Commander John McKnight.

The Fisher House, a nonprofit providing no-cost lodging to military and veteran families while a loved one receives hospital treatment, has been a longstanding support system for families during challenging times. With facilities near military and VA hospitals, Fisher House enables families to stay together and focus on what matters most: supporting their loved ones through recovery.

Commander Hipp, a proud member of Clinton’s American Legion Post 56, was visibly moved by the opportunity to represent Post 22’s commitment to Fisher House. The gesture resonates with Legionnaire Hipp’s devotion to supporting veterans and their families, underscoring the American Legion’s dedication to community, service, and support for those who have served the country.

Post 22’s $1,000 contribution will aid Fisher House in continuing its invaluable work, providing a home away from home for families facing difficult and often extended hospital stays. The donation also reflects the spirit of generosity and camaraderie that defines the American Legion, strengthening its mission to assist veterans and their families across the state and beyond.

As Commander Hipp handed the check to Commander Donegan, the pride on his face reflected the gratitude and commitment of all those involved, making a powerful statement of unity and support within South Carolina’s veteran community.
