May 8, 2019

United Community Bank has announced it will strengthen its North Carolina presence with the recent hire of two experienced Charlotte-based bankers that will lead operations in the growing metro region. Charles Curtis, along with Thomas McTier, will establish a commercial lending team that can introduce United’s service-focused style of banking to the thriving business community in the Charlotte region. United has more than 30 branches in North Carolina, currently concentrated in the Raleigh and Western North Carolina regions.

“Expansion to Charlotte has long been something we’ve wanted to do because of its market potential, strong banking community and perfect fit with our existing footprint,” said Jim Rose, State President – North Carolina. “We’re thrilled to launch our operations in the market with a pair of experienced bankers who can help us identify the right customers and bankers for our continued growth.”

“We have been pleased with the growth we’ve seen around Raleigh, and we have a strong foundation in the western part of the state. Adding a team in Charlotte is a natural evolution to our growth in the Carolinas and we are confident in the abilities of Charlie and Thomas to introduce our way of banking to the market,” added Rich Bradshaw, United’s Chief Banking Officer.

Charles (Charlie) Curtis joins the bank as Charlotte Metro President with more than 25 years of commercial lending and market management experience in North Carolina with banks of all sizes. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Western Regional Commercial Executive for Aquesta Bank where he led the commercial banking team and managed commercial sales and marketing efforts in the Charlotte and Lake Norman markets. He is very involved with the community as a past president of the Rotary Club of Lake Norman – Huntersville and a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Huntersville. He is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

“I am thrilled to bring United Community Bank to the Charlotte market,” said Curtis. “Because of my experience living and working in this community, I know that United’s products and culture are an excellent fit for this area. The ability of United Community Bank to provide the resources of a larger bank with the personal service of a smaller bank will be an incredible benefit to business owners in Charlotte.”

Curtis will be supported by Thomas McTier, who is an experienced banking sales professional with more than 15 years of experience and will serve as Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending Division Manager. Prior to United, McTier was a VP and Senior Relationship Manager – Commercial Banking with Regions Bank in Charlotte, N.C. where he participated in the company’s emerging leaders program. He has also served as a Territory Market Loan Manager with PNC Bank and a Relationship Manager for Liberty Bank in Ohio. McTier’s experience with cross selling and commercial lending for customers of all sizes will be a perfect fit for helping customers identify which of United’s wide variety of lending options are best for each situation.

Curtis and McTier will be based in Southpark.
