United Community Bank Ice on Main celebrates end of successful sixth season
January 17, 2017United Community Bank Ice on Main celebrates the conclusion of its sixth season today in a Closing Ceremony at downtown Greenville’s only outdoor skating rink. City Councilmember Amy Ryberg Doyle announced that this year’s total number of skaters exceeded 11,000 over the nine-week season, bringing the six-year total to more than 86,000.
“United Community Bank Ice on Main is part of the magic that makes downtown Greenville a special place to be during the holiday season,” said Councilmember Doyle. “We want to express our gratitude to the sponsors who make this possible, the families who choose to make memories on the ice and the community that embraces this tradition.”
United Community Bank returned as title sponsor for the fourth year. They also continued to sponsor the sales of gloves and socks at the rink throughout the season. This year, the proceeds from these sales totaled $2,000 and United Community Bank Greenville County President Michelle Seaver presented a check for this amount to Marti Spencer, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas. The funds will be used to help sponsor a room at the Greenville Ronald McDonald House for a family for a full year.
“Words cannot express how much we enjoy being a part of United Community Bank Ice on Main,” said Seaver. “Helping to bring the magic to Main Street for the holiday season is a real privilege and our entire team is excited to be a part of the family. We are also excited to further give back to a special organization in this community through the proceeds from sales of socks and gloves. ”
The winner of the third annual Skate Your Way to Broadway sweepstakes was also announced at the Closing Ceremony. The grand prize winner, Blake Brookshire of Greenville, won roundtrip airfare from GSP International Airport to New York City, tickets to skate at Rockefeller Center, tickets to see Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway and at opening night at the Peace Center, and a $500 prepaid giftcard from United Community Bank.
