United Way of the Midlands grows its professional development programs with the launch of new leadership series on October 9

October 2, 2019

United Way of the Midlands expands its professional development opportunities with the launch of a new program called the Leadership Learning Lab Series for local small business professionals.

The Leadership Learning Lab Series, known as 3LS, provides relevant, interactive discussions on the trends and day-to-day challenges that local business leaders face.

“3LS is a great opportunity for our local small business owners to gather in a welcoming environment and share ideas they may otherwise not make time for,” said Sara Fawcett, United Way of the Midlands CEO and President. “We find that offering a variety of professional development opportunities is an important part of engaging our community in a meaningful way.”

United Way will host its first event of the quarterly series on Wednesday, October 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The first event is an Employee Engagement Bootcamp with a guest panel including Tara Davis of AppleOne, Robin Revels of Lexington Medical Center and Christina Thoesen of Terminix; the discussion will be moderated by Erin Vassallo of AppleOne. This focus of this event is on hiring, employee retention and employee engagement.

“3LS will give small business owners an opportunity to learn about common issues in the business community, gain access to mentorship from established business leaders, and network with like-minded individuals,” said Zach Minton, Partner of K2Tech Group and founding member of United Way’s Small Business Alliance and co-chair of the Alliance’s professional development committee. “We’ve designed this series to provide valuable insight into business operations for small business owners who may not otherwise have time to dig deep into topics that will help them succeed.”

The event will be held at United Way of the Midlands located at 1818 Blanding Street, Columbia, South Carolina, 29201. Registration is required due to limited space. To learn more and register, visit uway.org/events.

Professional development programs offered by United Way include the Caffeinated Conversation quarterly networking events, Blueprint for Leadership, a professional development program to prepare individuals for volunteer leadership service in the nonprofit sector, training events that provide Continuing Education Unit credits and other opportunities through Always United, Women in Philanthropy and Young Leaders Society groups.

Terminix Services, Inc. is the official Welcome Sponsor for the October 9 event.
