United Way of the Midlands hosts Breaking Down Barriers Workshop Series and Resource Fair

June 7, 2021

United Way of the Midlands educates the community on the barriers to employment with its Breaking Down Barriers Workshop Series and collaborates with organizations to provide resources to support individuals encountering those barriers through its Breaking Barriers Resource Fair.

Breaking Down Barriers Workshop Series

Breaking Down Barriers is United Way of the Midlands’ four-week workshop series that highlights one barrier to employment each week. This new workshop series, curated by Brianna Casaus, United Way’s Economic Mobility VISTA, offered eight workshops, focusing on a total of four barriers to employment.

The final two workshops entitled, “Building Your Career: Tips for Attaining Gainful Employment,” will be led by the Midlands Education and Business Alliance on June 8 at 10 a.m. and June 9 at 4 p.m. Those interested must register at uway.org/events/breaking-barriers-workshop-series to attend this virtual workshop.

“This workshop series and resource fair is a vital part of helping our community gain access to resources that will assist them with achieving financial stability,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO.

Breaking Barriers Resource Fair

The goal of the Breaking Barriers Resource Fair is to connect people in the Midlands who are seeking gainful employment with employers and supportive services that can help address a variety of barriers to employment. The resource fair will feature organizations and agencies that offer services such as career assistance, education and training, legal services, transportation services and more.

This year, the Breaking Barriers Resource Fair will be held via Zoom on June 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Prior to the fair, participants will receive a summary of services provided by each organization and will have a chance to attend breakout sessions with their preferred organization(s). Those interested in participating must register at uway.org/events/breaking-barriers-resource-fair to attend.
