Community service program, Team Gamecocks Powered by ScanSource, brings student-athletes, coaches and staff together to serve needs of local community

The University of South Carolina Athletics Department and Greenville-based ScanSource, Inc., a leading global provider of technology products and solutions, recently launched a community service program and partnership, Team Gamecocks Powered by ScanSource. The partnership, which will last through the 2017 Athletics season, empowers student-athletes and coaches to volunteer their time and efforts in the local community.

Each year through Team Gamecocks, USC Athletics is able to positively impact the local community in a variety of ways. Student-athletes and coaches visit hospitalized veterans, collect goods for food banks, read to elementary school children, interact with kids during after-school programs, and more. The program also provides student-athletes with professional internships, resume and interview workshops.

“University of South Carolina student-athletes achieve tremendous success in their athletic endeavors, and through our Team Gamecocks initiative, they also make a positive impact in our local communities volunteering their time and efforts,” said Gamecocks Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “Last year, Gamecock student-athletes volunteered more than 11,153 hours helping others. Our commitment to community service mirrors that of ScanSource and we are excited to partner with ScanSource in our Team Gamecocks program.”

ScanSource has also been named Title Sponsor of USC Athletics’ Week of Giving from November 28 – December 4, 2016. The week-long initiative includes additional community service opportunities for student-athletes, such as preparing and delivering food to senior citizens, assisting at a local farm, support at the Ronald McDonald House, and visits to multiple elementary and middle schools. ScanSource employees will be participating with Week of Giving efforts this year.

“ScanSource is proud to partner with USC Athletics and the Team Gamecocks program, and we’re excited to play a role in the continued commitment to make a difference in the community,” said Christy Thompson, vice president of worldwide marketing at ScanSource. “ScanSource has historically had a focus on making a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work – utilizing our resources to support educational initiatives, charitable and nonprofit partners. It is always important for us to partner with those who share our enthusiasm for volunteering and giving back to the community, and USC Athletics and Team Gamecocks share this vision.”

Team Gamecocks also partners with the NCAA Life Skills program, a collaboration between NCAA’s national office, more than 1,000 educational institutions, and various affiliate organizations. Life Skills is committed to the total development of student-athletes, preparing them with the skills they need throughout college and after graduation. Through the Team Gamecocks partnership, ScanSource will have the opportunity to host workshops dedicated to student-athletes throughout the year.

ScanSource believes the foundation of its success comes from the communities in which the company operates. For this reason, ScanSource has historically made it a priority to invest significantly in efforts that embody the company’s core values, such as committing time, talents, and resources to those less fortunate. The ScanSource Charitable Foundation was founded more than 20 years ago to support educational initiatives, charitable organizations, non-profits, and the welfare of children in the communities in which ScanSource employees live and work. These important causes have been a part of the company’s culture since the beginning, and they hold true in all 45 ScanSource offices across the globe.
