UofSC unveils innovative ‘library of the future’

January 23, 2020

This week, the University of South Carolina students unveiled an innovative study and collaborative workspace on Level 4 of the Thomas Cooper Library — the long-standing favorite place to study on campus. The newly renovated space, called “the library of the future” has new-to-the-market collaborative technology pods — glass-walled, temperature-controlled spaces with large, interactive monitors where students can wirelessly connect their phone and tablet apps. Students can freely arrange most of the furniture, creating large workspaces, individual nooks, or any design to meet their academic needs and improve the study environment.

The renovation, which began during Thanksgiving break in 2019, was completed before students and faculty returned to campus in January to minimize disruption. The furniture is from local company McWaters.
