Upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes announced

January 22, 2024

Dorchester County Emergency Management is now taking registrations for the upcoming Spring 2024 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes. Those that complete the training are able to assist the community during emergency and disaster situations.

Classes take place on Thursday evenings with the Disaster Simulation and graduation held on Satruday, March 16, 2024.

The current class schedule is as follows:

  • February 1st: Disaster Preparedness
  • February 8th: CERT Organization
  • February 15th: Disaster Medical Part 1
  • February 22nd: Disaster Medical Part 2
  • February 29th: Fire Safety
  • March 7th: Search and Rescue
  • March 14th: Disaster Psychology
  • March 16th: Disaster Simulation

All classes will be held at the Dorchester County Council Chambers in Summerville and will transition to the county’s new Emergency Operations Center upon its opening.

The CERT classes cover a range of topics crucial for community members to effectively respond to emergencies and disasters. Participants will gain valuable insights from experts in disaster preparedness, medical response, fire safety, search and rescue, and disaster psychology.

The Disaster Simulation on March 16th offers a hands-on experience to apply the skills learned during the course, providing a realistic scenario to enhance participants’ ability to respond in a controlled environment.

We encourage all community members to take advantage of this opportunity to become better prepared and equipped to contribute to the safety and well-being of our community.
