Updated “Yard Ordinance” gives owners more time to remedy problems

April 7, 2016

An updated Richland County ordinance gives residents more time to get weeds and other rank vegetation under control before citations are written.

The ordinance now allows a property owner 30 days, instead of 10, to comply with a notice served by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Additionally, if a property is determined to be a nuisance, 30 days, rather than 20, must pass after the notice is issued before the County can take steps to clean the property – and seek reimbursement for the cost.

A public hearing was held Feb. 9 on the yard ordinance. To view all County ordinances, click here.
